Human Resource Specialist

The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the position of Human Resources Specialist.
The City of Indianola (pop.
15,833) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines.
It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools.
Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.
S.
Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses.
The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair and other events.
Under general supervision, performs operational and technical human resources duties including recruitment, data entry, benefits and compensation, and special projects.
Some general duties include, but are not limited to:
Plans and conducts recruitments for city departments and completes pre-employment and onboarding tasks for all employees.
Maintains appropriate payroll and benefits database systems to ensure accurate information; processes personnel changes, new hire, termination, wage, and benefit changes as needed.
Administers leave programs, tracking hours, communicating with employees and facilitating return to work in accordance with City policy, Federal, and State laws.
Assists in records retention and archiving of documents.
Minimum requirements include:
Associates Degree in Business Administration or relate field.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant human resources work experience.
Municipality experience preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, data base management and office equipment.

Starting salary is $64,050.

This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package that includes vacation, sick leave, personal leave, life insurance and AD&D, short and long-term disability, health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check.
